New Biblical research shows that all Christians
should be Catholic
A lifelong Protestant and Scripture expert has brought forth evidence that Catholicism is the only Christian religion that agrees completely with the Bible --- evidence that's so compelling it led him to become a Catholic!
Dave Armstrong's odyssey began decades ago when disputes among his Protestant brethren launched him on a quest to discover the true Bible-based church.
The closer he looked at Scripture, the more he found key teachings that were denied by this Protestant sect or ignored by that one.
Worse: his hard-core Protestant convictions were shaken by mounting evidence that of all the Christian churches today, only one --- the Catholic Church --- is thoroughly biblical. Says Armstrong: "That was entirely contrary to what I had so cavalierly assumed as an Evangelical Protestant."
Not one to make hasty decisions, Armstrong undertook nearly two decades of study to resolve, once and for all, the core issues that divide Catholics and Protestants:
1. Is the Bible (as Protestants claim) the sole rule of faith? (Or does it actually direct us elsewhere for answers about disputed questions of faith?)
2. Does the Bible teach, as many Protestants claim, that believers can be saved by faith alone? (Or is the Catholic Church right: there's more that we must do.)
3. Does the Bible forbid us to honor Mary? (Or does it explicitly call us to venerate her, as Catholics do?)
4. Does the Bible clearly teach, as Catholics claim, that at the Last Supper (and in the Mass) bread and wine literally become the body and blood of Jesus? Or do they remain just symbols?
5. Does the Bible forbid (or encourage) prayer to saints?
6. Is Purgatory a fiction created by the Catholic Church, or a doctrine taught throughout the Old and New Testaments?
7. Is confession necessary for our salvation, or should we, as Protestants teach, confess directly to God?
8. Does the Pope have infallible authority over all Christians, or is he just the head of another Christian denomination?
Armstrong knew that definitive answers to these key questions would enable him to determine which church is the true Bible-based church.
In his recently released work, A Biblical Defense of Catholicism, Armstrong details the surprising discoveries he made --- discoveries that will help you see, as Armstrong now does, that Catholicism is the biblical church par excellence, discoveries that will help you convince your friends of this truth, too.
Here's how, in each chapter, Armstrong proceeds:
First, relying on Church councils, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the Church Fathers, and canon law, Armstrong provides (in the Church's own words) an authoritative statement and explanation of what the Catholic Church actually teaches.
Then he assembles hundreds of passages from the Bible (including verses from 229 of the 259 chapters in the New Testament!) that pertain to the Catholic doctrines in question.
Finally, having laid out the teachings of the Church and noted the relevant Scripture passages, Armstrong subjects each Catholic doctrine to microscopic scrutiny, measuring its conformity with the Bible.
The result?
With a mastery of Scripture equal to that of the most committed Protestants, Armstrong doesn't merely demonstrate that the Catholic Church is the "Bible Church par excellence"; he shows that many common Protestant doctrines (such as Sola Scriptura) are in fact themselves not biblical!
A Biblical Defense of Catholicism calls Protestants to reconsider their anti-Catholic assumptions and leads Catholics to turn with greater confidence to the pages of Scripture, where they will discover for themselves a sure biblical defense of our Catholic faith.
Dave Armstrong is a Catholic apologist and evangelist who has proclaimed Christianity for more than twenty years. Formerly a Protestant campus missionary, Armstrong entered the Catholic Church in 1991. He has written six books on Catholicism as well as articles for many Catholic periodicals.
"I highly recommend A Biblical Defense of Catholicism, which I find to be thoroughly orthodox, well written, and effective in making Catholic truth more understandable and accessible to the public at large."
