On Choosing Your Enemies
Devotion to the souls in Purgatory contains in itself all the works of mercy, which supernaturalized by a spirit of faith, should merit us Heaven. de Sales
Re: On Choosing Your Enemies
The spirit of Vatican II sadly is not correctly addressed.
The Pope called the council because already priests were bringing
into the church (lets say 'differences) from set doctrine, worship etc.
For example, they would celebrate mass in the vernacular.
The Pope had to address this, but did so, assertively.
He called together all the bishops and convened the second Vatican Council.
Great theologians were present include John Paul II and a very young Fr Ratzinger (later to become Pope Benedict XVI), who had caught the eye because of his vast knowledge about spirituality, doctrine, faith...etc
The world was changing with globalization, modernity and the church was working to address its role in a vastly changing world while keeping the Deposit of Faith handed down from Apostolic age.
Note the difference here, with today's attempted changes by Bergoglio.
The Deposit of faith, as handed down by the apostles is not to be interfered with.
The Pope and bishops have a duty of care to preserve it.
They permitted mass to be said in the vernacular instead of Latin,
because that does not affect the Deposit of Faith as long as it is
being preached correctly.
However, today's allowing women to be considered for roles that Bishops were supposed to be
in charge of, is not ok.
Its not a gender attack by me, (and i can say this because i'm a woman).
Bergoglio's appointment of Sister Raffaella Petrini, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist, as the new President of the Pontifical Commission for Vatican City State and President of the Governorate of Vatican City State, effective March 1, 2025, marks the first time a woman will hold the highest leadership position within the Vatican's administrative structure.
If we look at the Deposit of Faith, yes women contributed a lot in the days of Jesus and afterwards.
Their hospitality and patronage and faith was an immense contribution to the spreading of the gospel.
However Jesus did not choose one as his Apostles.
Nor did the Apostles after Judas' death, choose Mary Magdalene or any woman to replace him.
While women have more rights today, leadership in Church governance should be appointment of bishops or Cardinals to hold the role, that has been passed on to them.
