Executive order making English official language of USA

Post by Denise »

Finally, and amen to that! I have always said that if a person wants to live in the USA, they must be able to speak and understand English. I don't care if they are from Mars.

I probably told this little story before but when my dad was born, he of course learned to speak French. Back then a child wasn't allowed to attend school until they learned the English language. Dad was eight years old when he was allowed to go to school. My poor grandparents, or my grandpa at least, had sixteen kids to teach the language to so they could attend school. My poor grandma, God bless her and rest her soul, never learned to speak English. She was too busy having and raising kids and I guess no one even tried to teach her. She died very young.

No, and that is why other language bearers thought they had to be catered to. Most employers that deal with the public expect their hires to be able to speak Spanish. In so many places you have to speak Spanish. IMHO, people who come here should speak English. I have 5 half Spanish grandchildren and none of them speak Spanish. Didn't want to learn it either.

I have always thought it should be the official language. I am glad he did this.
