New Movie : The Conclave

Post by MarieT »

I've been seeing the trailer for this movie and rather interested in watching it when it comes out.

Today I found this : Bishop Barron is advising people to stay away from the movie.

Here is the trailer, then read on to the article on Bishop Barron's supposed ban on it (if you wish to).

"funny" about that
It depicts ideological and theological infighting among Catholic cardinals during the election of a new pope. More traditional cardinals are pitted against others who are portrayed as being open to changes in doctrine that are contrary to Catholic teaching.
well actually not so "funny" as the witnessing of high ranking cardinals and bishops replaced during francis' pontificate with more "agreeable" yes-francis-clerics who don't have the expertise for the roles ....but i digress

I am leery of Bp. Barron, but I digress too

Bp Barron has gone to social media to tell people re the film to "run away from it as fast as you can."

I sent the Bp a message stating that I will be watching the film and am eager to see the 'behind the scenes' drama that the author was no doubt privy to. Though I haven't seen the film, the theories seem to bare likeness to the current drama surrounding the bergoglio papacy.

Poor Papa Benedetto. May he rest in peace.

This movie has definitely caught my attention. I was wondering if it will be blasphemous or not. Either way, it is a work of fiction and that needs to be kept in mind.

“Pope Joan” Smear Returns with a Vengeance: Conclave’s Hermaphroditic Pope

The contrived “shocker” ending of "Conclave" hearkens back to the legend of Pope Joan, which has always been a favorite of the disaffected and rabidly anti-Catholic Protestants.

Well, i no longer want to see this movie.
I've had quite a day and lost a very close friend when she pushed me to talk about politics.
And now pope Joan is being mentioned again? I am quite done.

I thought the female "pope" issue was just a fabrication.
The Holy Spirit would not permit it.

I'll check with a medieval historian when I can.
Today it is generally agreed that Joan did not exist. Modern scholars carefully traced all of the stories about Joan and the historical timeline, confirming that it would be impossible for her to have ruled. The Oxford Dictionary of Popes says there is no evidence of the female pope...

Another key reason for the common belief Joan is a work of fiction is that none of the church’s enemies mention Joan. When they talk about the popes they are trying to conquer in their letters and books, they only mention Benedict and Leo, never John (or Joan).

Despite being the subject of a truly fascinating urban legend, Pope Joan doesn’t feature much in modern pop culture. Other urban legend stories, such as the story of Anastasia Romanov, have become part of social consciousness through films and shows, Pope Joan has not.

Conclave is both anti-Catholic propaganda and secular confession

many cardinals, bishops, particularly those excommunicated by francis have implied that francis is anti catholic

the article states that the death of the pope in the film is a prelude for what to expect when francis dies

what resonates between the film and the current reality is already sending shock waves

forgot to mention

see earlier posts regarding francis preparing for when he passes-
removal of high learned cardinals and replacement with "less qualified"
to ensure his agenda continues...

and while one parish priest states that even Jesus chose among the lowest
to be his disciples, those not "qualified"....the gift of the Holy Spirit made
them beacons and strong missionaries for the faith,.... however going by the current
synod and other controversies from Francis, one sees his alleged "progressiveness"
as an alarming shift to doctrinal teachings handed down and (supposedly) to be
safeguarded by the bishops entrusted to the role.

but as we have stated before.....the Church belongs to the Lord
it is maintained by the Holy Spirit....when the Bishops gather together in collegiality, the Spirit is there
those attempting to break the bonds, are in grave sin
the church will always thrive
but they, by their actions against the collegiality, bring their own peril

God is merciful and patient in giving them time to wake up and listen to the Spirit
