Prayers requested for my cousin's husband

Post by Denise »

I was just notified that my cousin's husband, Dave had surgery this morning for a brain bleed. He has fallen several times and the blood that was old from what must have been a previous fall had moved his brain. When the doctor did surgery this morning and the blood drained the brain went back into place. He said the old blood was pretty old. Dave fell going down the steps on the way to Mass Sunday and hit his head on the wall. Hence the new blood. He was sent to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, La. That is the hospital that saved my kid's dad's life if you will remember. So, Dave is in a good place but needs prayer.

Thanks in advance.

I sent my cousin the facts on St. John Licci yesterday after she told me about his condition. Glad you mentioned it here. So many miracles wrought through his intercession.

Update night before last's experience
Terrible night. Ups and downs today. He was struggling so hard to breath they put him on a C Pap for some relief. It helped. As we speak, he is alert, watching TV and speech is better than it has been, we can understand most of what he says.
This morning's news.
Took the drain tube out this morning. That part is good but the disease is digging its heals in. Had the CPAP last nite so he did get some rest. They take it off every now and then just to give him a break from it. Sissy, I'm praying that we can at least get him back to Alex.
I have a feeling this won't end well but I continue to pray for God's Will in the matter. His neuro surgeon suspects Lou Gehrig's disease. He was supposed to go to see that doctor in June to find out but that may not happen. My dad's sister died of that at a fairly young age and it is a terrible way to die. Dave has pretty much all the symptoms. 😞

Dave has a Motor Neuron Disease and they don't know exactly which it is. Anyway it has attacked his organs and they don't know how much time he has left. There is no cure and it is aggressive. Please pray for Dave and his family. Thanks for praying βœπŸ™

Update

Had a restful night. Guess he finally got so tired of trying to sneak out of bed!😳 He had the Most amazing night nurse last night. His name is Justin and he gave Dave the kind of care he would give his own Dad. Did all kind of things to make Dave comfortable. Was so gentle and caring when he was working with him. Debbie and I had tears as we watched him do his work. They will try and take the CPAP off again today and see how he does. Giving him a different IV med today, his sodium levels are still a bit high.

Today's update

They just took the CPAP off again and are putting him on another regular type of oxygen machine. Will see how well he can do on his own. They will check him in 2 hours. We just have to keep an eye on his breaths and coughs. Rehab will be back tomorrow. If he does good on breathing on his own, they will work with him again. πŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ»

Got this today 😊
Woo-hoo!!! He had the swallow test done. No feeding tube needed. He can start with a liquid and puree diet. Prayer is powerful!!!
Dave loves to eat and I made them laugh when I text back to her;
Tell Dave NO BACON
He had to have bacon daily and probably by the pound.

Update from Debbie; Dave's daughter
Today was not the best of days. He backslid. He had PT today. He had to be put back on the cpap and has been on it all day and will be through the night. With that said he had no lunch or supper. We can understand very few words these days. The doctor said speech therapy will not help. It is part of ALS. Due to the head trauma his ALS has progressed drastically. They do have a machine they will try to get for him to communicate with us. I am no doctor but watching my daddy and with what we know and daily research I believe the Motor Neuron Disease he has is Sporadic Bulbar ALS. This is between daddy and God. Please pray for peace and comfort for daddy and what is God's will.
