Thousands gather-- despite archbishop's plea-- for predicted apparition at Knock November 02, 2009
Ignoring a plea from Archbishop Michael Neary of Tuam, an estimated 10,000 people gathered at the shrine of Our Lady of Knock on October 31, hoping to see a new apparition of the Virgin Mary at the site where she appeared in 1879. The archbishop had warned that predictions by a self-styled mystic, Joe Coleman, had the potential for "misleading God's people and undermining faith," and discouraged the faithful from expecting such an extraordinary phenomenon. But the crowd gathered nonetheless, and Coleman later claimed that the Virgin Mary had again appeared to him. At least some spectators believed him, reporting that they thought the sun had been spinning in the sky.

Devotion to the souls in Purgatory contains in itself all the works of mercy, which supernaturalized by a spirit of faith, should merit us Heaven. de Sales
