Jesus tells the people that they are the salt of the earth (Matthew)
but mainly used for protection from evil....sprinkled around the house perimeters.
i recall a priest's surprise once when i asked him to bless a small canister of salt for me. Still have it as a home sacramental

When Fr. Paul blessed our home, as he walked around with the incense and we were praying the Hail Mary, he had Stephen and Jonathan place blessed salt in all the window ledges and in corners of rooms and over the doors. ✝
