Archbishop Georg Ganswein offers an account of the personal and working life of Pope Benedict XVI, one of the most important churchmen of the last century.

Benedict XVI's legacy will continue to guide the church as this pope's life is better known and his sanctity more widely understood.

Many of the most controversial moments during Benedict's pontificate are revisited and clarified and Ganswein directly confronts false claims that unduly obscure Benedict's enormous contribution to the Church..

Archbishop Ganswein speaks with authority about the man behind some of the most brilliant writing produced in modern Catholic history, a priest whose deep friendship with Jesus Christ was the foundation of his leadership that enriched faith and culture throughout the world.

This spiritual testament offers an instructive window in to the world of the Vatican, while illuminating the papacy of the saintly, and indeed heroic, Benedict XVI

Prologue
Arch Ganswein outlines Cardinal Ratzinger appointing him to be his personal secretary (2003) and his role in the Congregation for the Doctrine of faith

he emphasises that Card Ratzinger stated both their roles would be "provisional"
and that Card Ratzinger was thinking of stepping down after 2 decades of faithfully holding the position

their "provisional" arrangement endured up until the time of Pope Benedict's death

After the death of Pope John Paul II, Ganswein continued the role during Benedict's time in office and after the resignation until his passing.

Ganswein treasured what he calls "grace-filled moments" spent with Benedict - the most important historical figure of the 20th century

He condemns the title "God's rottweiler" that the media gave him but attests to Benedict's profound fidelity to Holy Mother Church's Tradition and Magisterium and his commitment to defend the Catholic faith

He speaks of his role as serving as personal secretary together with his role as Prefect of the Pontifical Household during the papacy of francis, assured him participation in major ecclesial events over the last 2 decades

These were years of joys and disappointments, excitement and exhaustion
negative were the abuse scandles and Vatican finances
but also the beautiful precious moments of faith especially among the young, fostering a hope of the bright future of the church

The book will present Ganswein's personal testimony of the the grandeur yet humility of an extraordinary man, Benedict the
scholar, cardinal and pope who helped shaped the history of the world today and will be remembered as a beacon of theological acumen, doctrinal clarity, and prophetic wisdom
The book will shed light --- from the inside-- the truth of the Vatican world.
