Pope Francis promotes Summorum Pontificum of Pope Benedict XVI

father ryan schmit first massThe very first thing Archbishop Bergoglio did after the publishing of Summorum Pontificum of Pope Benedict XVI was to promote the Traditional Latin Mass, the Extraordinary Form, in his Archdiocese, immediately directing that a chapel, to start with, be set up for this end.

Just in case you were wondering.

Devotion to the souls in Purgatory contains in itself all the works of mercy, which supernaturalized by a spirit of faith, should merit us Heaven. de Sales

If he moves decisively on liturgy and in promotion of the Extraordinary form.. he will address and continue B16s major initiative.. and answer a lot of questions about how 'original' this Pontificate will be.

Interestingly one of B16s lasting architectural legacies in the Vatican was to restore the Pauline Chapel which had been carpetted, 'de-railed' and its alter moved to accomodate 'versus populum' worship.. to its TLM format. Benedict removed the carpetting to expose the beautiful marble floors, and re-set the railing and the alter to their original layout.

It was the commencement point for the procession of Cardinal electors to the Sistine Chapel.. so providential maybe. :)
