Our Lady of Good Help: The Story Behind America’s Only Approved Marian Apparition
By Debbie Cowden
Catholics worldwide are familiar with Marian apparitions at Fatima, Lourdes, and Guadalupe, but fewer are aware of Mary’s visit to Champion, Wisconsin, a small town in the Green Bay metro area. In 1859, Our Lady appeared to a Belgian woman, Adele Brise, sending her on a mission to "gather the children in this wild country and teach them what they should know for salvation."
Our Lady of Good Help, as this apparition is now known, is the only approved U.S. Marian apparition, and too few people know about it! To remedy this, EWTN is airing “An American Apparition: Our Lady of Good Help” 5:30 p.m. ET Thursday, Oct. 17. Encore airs at 2:30 a.m. ET Friday, Oct. 18.
When Brise came face-to-face with Our Lady in 1859, she had no idea her life would be so radically transformed by the Blessed Mother’s call. Brise, who as a child alongside her friends in Belgium had vowed to become a religious sister, had to practice obedience to the Lord in a different way. When her family immigrated to the United States, religious life no longer was an option, but that didn’t mean she was excused from giving her life to Christ.
“What are you doing here in idleness …while your companions are working in the vineyard of my Son?”
That’s what the Blessed Mother had asked in one of her apparitions, revealing to Brise that it now was her time to follow God’s plan for her life. Brise’s friends went on to become religious sisters, and she became a Third Order (or Secular) Franciscan and wore a Franciscan-like habit with a veil and a scapular – as did other young women who eventually joined her – and was called Sister.
Because Brise answered her heavenly mother’s request, orphans and poor families received the catechesis they lacked, terrified villagers found refuge from the catastrophic Peshtigo Fire, and pilgrims worldwide have benefitted from graces received at the shrine built in Our Lady’s honor.

I live less than an hour away. It's growing fast. They built a new building that has just opened. If anyone would like something from there you can let me know before the snow starts to fall. https://www.shrineofourladyofgoodhelp.com/
