I wasn't catholic until 1998, but I do wish the architecture, communion rails, and ad orientem had stayed in the mass.
I have never seen genuflecting at the final blessing, although we all cross ourselves, and that seems to suffice. But perhaps I just don't know the difference or I wouldn't say that. Also during the creed, everyone bows their head instead of genuflecting, so respect is being shown there in some fashion.
in general I would say we're much more casual about the mass and overall less respectful. (Not that what happens is necessarily DIS respectful, but this is God we're talking about here. Why would you even be LESS respectful?) The absence of patens to catch the host or crumbs during communion and too many extraordinary communion ministers attest to this. Actually, the nine things mentioned in the article all attest to this.
Jesus is my best friend. He wants to be familiar to me in a personal way because He loves me so much. But none of that prevents him from being fully God also. He is worthy and deserving of all our worship and praise. Where else should that be most evident than in the mass?
I suspect the mass is slowly finding its balance. I think over time, mass is getting more reverent again. I pray that I'm not wrong.
