Dear Friends,

This is a roundup of recent news of events and initiatives, which may be of interest.

God bless,
Donal

Foyer of Charity retreat at Wonersh

We will be holding another Foyer de Charité Retreat this autumn at Wonersh seminary near Guildford. The dates are Sunday 30 October (6pm), until Saturday 5 November (2pm). The theme is God’s Plan for the Fullness of Time, and the preacher will be Mgr. Keith Barltrop, with the presence of three members of Foyers de Charité in France.

Foyer retreats are held mainly in silence, with three talks a day covering the major aspects of the Catholic faith such as Creation and Salvation, the Trinity, the Sacraments, etc., while at the same time helping participants to deepen their life of prayer and their Christian life.

There is Mass, morning and evening prayer each day, and opportunities to talk to the retreat giver and Foyer members, and to go to Confession. The climax of the retreat is the Renewal of baptismal vows and Consecration of our lives to God through Our Lady. The Foyers are communities of consecrated lay people living with a priest in order to help others grow closer to Christ and live the Catholic faith more fully. There are over 70 Foyer houses around the world, and we hope to found one in England in the next few years.

If you are ready to book a place, please send your details (name, address, phone/email, age and religious affiliation) to Fr. Keith with a deposit of £20 (cash or cheque made payable to Rev. Keith Barltrop). The suggested donation for the retreat is £200. If this is a problem, please contact Fr. Keith. Please indicate if you have any significant health problems or require a special diet.

For further information contact Fr. Keith on 07879 953953; keithbarltrop@rcdow.org.uk or at St. Mary of the Angels, Moorhouse Road, Bayswater, London W2 5DJ

Fatima Dominican Sisters Vocations

I was recently in Fatima and visited the Pius XII Domincan Sisters there – they have a lovely spirituality, but could do with more vocations! I can’t think of a more beautiful location in which to fulfill one’s vocation – so close to where Our Lady actually appeared to the shepherd children in 1917.

They are an international Community of cloistered, contemplative Nuns who belong to the Order of St. Dominic -- the Dominicans. Their Dominican motto is: Laudare: To praise; Benedicere: To Bless; Predicare: To Preach the Word of God, Jesus Christ, Saviour of the world.

United in prayer, their consecrated, contemplative life is totally dedicated to serving Christ and His Church in silence and solitude. Their special mission, given us by their Founder Fr. Damien Marie Saintourens, O.P. and affirmed by the Magisterium of the Church, is to pray and propagate the prayer of the Perpetual Rosary. Praying the Rosary continually before the Blessed Sacrament, they bring the needs of their Dominican Brethren and the entire world to Jesus through Mary.

In their Fatima cloister, they have a threefold calling to the life the Rosary: through the tradition of St. Dominic; the charism of Fr. Damien-Marie and the Message of Our Lady of Fatima.

Medjugorje Revisited: 30 Years of Visions or Religious Fraud? investigates the alleged visions of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Medjugorje, looking at their origins, and their impact on the Catholic Church. It is an expanded, revised and updated version of Understanding Medjugorje, which was published in 2006. Since then there have been important new developments, including the formation of an International Commission to investigate the alleged visions.

Millions of people have visited Medjugorje, even though it has received no official Church approval. If you want to know the truth about Medjugorje, then Medjugorje Revisited will give you the whole story, right from the beginning.

The CMQ is a medical journal set up to discuss key issues in medicine as they relate to and support doctors nurses and other health care professionals in their practice. It is the journal of the Catholic Medical Association (UK).

The purpose of the CMQ is to provide and describe an evidence base that enables understanding of the teaching of Christ and his Church as was requested by Pope Paul VI in his encyclical Humanae Vitae.

The Catholic Medical Association (UK) is a registered charity which all Catholic healthcare professionals, hospital chaplains and managers involved in clinical service may join to access a range of services which aim to make it easier for you to integrate your faith and your clinical practice, to network online or at branch meetings with like-minded colleagues or with specialty interests in common.

YouCat Recall

While there are many good things contained in YOUCAT, there are also significant problems related especially to Scriptural inerrancy, certain moral teachings, and the doctrine of creation that should be changed if the youth are to be correctly taught full Church doctrine that has been staunchly defended since the time of the Apostles.

This web page below explains some of the most significant concerns with YOUCAT and calls for its recall and correction, or for it to be replaced with a document such as the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which does not contain problematic language or ambiguities. If you are a Catholic who believes in the importance of handing on the fullness of Catholic truth to our youth clearly and completely, please join in this petition drive.

Medjupedia website

In addition to the sites giving information on Medjugorje I mentioned in my last newsletter, there is also an excellent resource available from Louis Belanger, through his Medjupedia blog, which can be seen at:

This is also the best place to buy the book published by Louis containing Fr Sivric’s transcriptions of the early Medjugorje tape interviews:
